Personal Profile

Mike Lawrence is an Australasian economic geologist with over 46 years international Minerals Industry experience (France, Southeast Asia and the Pacific) as a senior executive for major consultancies (like BRGM-France and Robertson Group–UK);  in stockbroking; and in government, having worked on major NSW mining project development and exploration title/environmental assessment, including dispute resolution of mining and community interest issues (eg, rural land access and dealing with various tiers of government).

Through Sydney-based MJ Lawrence Holdings Pty Limited, Mike is a CEO & Principal Consultant/Chief Valuer of Minval Associates (founded in 1991). It is a firm of independent consulting geologists, technical auditors and resource asset valuers serving the international metalliferous mining, coal and quarrying industries.

Mike gives independent expert advice to the corporate, legal, insurance and financial sectors essentially in the areas of due diligence reviews/technical study audits of various levels of feasibility studies and Resources/Reserves estimates;  and provides ADR conflict resolution solutions or acts as an Expert Witness in litigation.  He is an AusIMM/IAMA-accredited Arbitrator & Mediator.

His specialisation in the technical appraisal and valuation of exploration properties, mines and securities.  He reviews/assesses exploration/investment strategies and project acquisitions/disposals.  Mike's commodity experience is diverse, including coal, iron ore and ferro-alloys, hard rock & alluvial gold, base metals, gemstones, mineral sands, bauxite, phosphate, tin/tungsten, clays, aggregates and dimension stone. He has also had published nearly 100 technical papers on mineral property valuation, due diligence, ethics and professional liability and presented at many international conferences.

Mike was the AusIMM's 1999 President [Councillor 1992-2000] and a Fellow since 1976,  He made major contributions to the VALMIN Code since 1991 (Chair, 2000-2002); and the AusIMM/MICA Alternate Dispute Resolution Scheme (Chair, 2000-2003).  He was a MICA member since 1989 [2010 MICA Medallist] and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists since 1987.
